Aaayo Hai Aaayo

by Bhataune Bhena
Vancouver. Nov.16-18. It is said that long long time ago in Nepal, King Balima sent some boys to play Deuse or Dheusi. The game was so fun and lucrative for those boys that even today, this Himalayan trick or treat -the game of songs and dance- are played by himsoc yetis to raise some funds for their club. For yetis, Deuse run is fun and the fund collected is a bonus for the club but for himali community it is a great way to keep the unique tradition alive. No wonder the first word of the game is Zhilimili!

WesCan 2012

by Thulo Khel
Surrey. Aug. 18-19. Started in Edmonton in 2010, this giant sports and cultural meet called Western Canada Regional Nepalese Sports and Cultural Event is a party which is slowly becoming a Nepali Olympics for the diaspora living along the West Coast. It sounds fun and looks great in pictures but when it comes to brass tasks, it is a challenge for organizers to host a event which has hundred and one things to put in one place. 3rd WesCan came to us prematurely but with the grace of unseen hand and exemplary volunteers and patient participants, the event ended up in flying colors.

Day One 2012

By Gham Lagyo

Suncouver. April 1. Last night I almost updated our facebook status with: Have the yetis ever kicked off a season on a sunny day?
Never, say never!
Today Mr. Sun showed up so magnificently that the yetis had one of the best kick-off day yet. First Sunday of April brings the spirit of National Holiday among yetis who look forward to kick-off a fresh season after a lull of winter boredom this city of rain brings to outdoor kickers. Believe it or not, these days in Vancouver, often the rain is called liquid sunshine. LOL.
The season looks quite exciting and challenging for yetis who are looking forward to play couple of prestigious one day tournaments in and around the city. But with the kind of josh yetis have kicked-off their day one, it is evident that yetis will have more than one reason to smile this season. Thank you Mr. Sun!
